Reach for the stars, or whatever that quote was...

Updated: Sep 18

9/18/2025 Update: The quote I think I was originally referencing was “Shoot for the moon; even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars” - Norman Vincent Peale.

Couple of things I noticed here:

1) I love that I said “What if you don’t?” in my original post back in 2014 because I was introduced to the concept of “Pronoia” in 2023 watching the show “Shrinking”. I didn’t realize that’s what it was called then and I didn’t realize it was a whole thing until I interviewed Briar Harvey on the Shannon Show Podcast later that year. She did something she has done for me many times over the years that day - she put a name to a thing I used far too many words to describe.

If you’re not familiar, pronoia is essentially the opposite of paranoia; it is the belief that the universe is conspiring on your behalf. Maybe I’ll write a blog about that some day.

2) I love how certain themes revisit my life in cycles and often when they do, I feel as though it’s the first time I’ve ever felt this way before. I.E., I remember stating and feeling that a handful of words got me through my first few years of business. The words? Audacity, grit & tenacity. Clearly, in spite of how I’ve often shown up in the world, I’ve always had a hard on for audacious behavior, even if it didn’t come from me. (Maybe *especially* when it didn’t?)

3) I recently saw a quote from Angela Davis that reignited something in me and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. Apparently April 2020 Shannon was channeling that energy. “You have to act as if it were possible to radically transform the world. And you have to do it all the time”

Update from 4/23/2020: I’ll only add to this that you need to BELIEVE you’re going to reach the stars.

Original post:

I think it's hugely important to shoot for the stars even if you're fairly positive you're going to get shot down half way there. What if you don't? If you never try, you DEFINITELY won't go anywhere.

The worst that can happen is you end up right back where you were, with maybe a little bit of a bruised ego, but a stronger backbone, and no loss. But the best is worth so much more if you weren't expecting it in the first place.
