“𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨?”
Because I gave myself permission.
My passion for personal finance was born as a child. I was 5 the first time I remember thinking about money.
My brother and I were raised by a single mom with very little outside help.
She was married for 7 years during that time and even then, money was always a concern.
I learned at a young age not to ask for anything extra because we couldn’t afford it.
At best, this meant that being the tall girl in class also meant being the girl with the pants that were always a little too short.
At worst, it meant that, without going into too much detail, we sometimes lived in less than favorable conditions and our diet often consisted of the north Georgia delicacy lovingly referred to as “fried bologna”.
I was eager to get a job as soon as I was legally able, which fell not too long after we fled our home to escape an abusive situation.
My brother is 6 years older than me, so being an adult, he stayed in our home town living on his own, so for the first time ever, it was just me and my mom, living in the same room together in my aunt’s trailer.
It was our safe haven.
But we both worked so we could afford to live.
I started working as a teenager, knowing the effects of not having money, but having no prior training on what to do with it once you got it.
It wasn’t until I moved out on my own that I realized that just working for money wasn’t enough to keep me from repeating the patterns I’d experienced all throughout my childhood.
So I developed a plan.
And then I tweaked that plan.
And then again. And again.
I learned to use excel for my first stable, well paying job outside of retail and I used those skills to create a simple spreadsheet for my soon to be husband and I to pay off all our debt, build his credit and save for our first home.
And each year, this spreadsheet changed slightly, but it’s the same one I use TODAY because the best way to teach a new skill is to KEEP IT SIMPLE.
What I realized over the years is that my story is unique, but it’s actually not that uncommon.
MOST of us either grew up broke, so there was seemingly nothing to teach us about money except that we didn’t have any
-OR-
It just wasn’t talked about at all. Because it’s “inappropriate” to talk about money.
We can’t change the past.
But we can change our future.
So why did I start my business?
Because the need is there.
Because I’m PASSIONATE about changing the course for my clients.
Because I was given PERMISSION to make money doing what I love.
And in return, my clients save SO MUCH MORE than they pay me and they learn to stop paying for past mistakes on repeat.
I don’t JUST teach budgeting.
I help you unpack years (decades) of unhealthy beliefs around money to get to the root of what’s gotten you to where you are.
I remove the fear of asking questions you were told you should know the answer to.
I break down the things the boys club wants you to be dependent on them for because I don’t want you to depend on ANYONE, not even me.
I want you to be empowered to RUN with what we learn together so you can teach others.
I started my business because I believe everyone deserves to keep the money they work for and I want to be the one to show them how.
